go figure that this isnt really public info or that there has yet to be a politician to acknowledge anything of the sort. not to mention that the monetary control is definitely one of the biggest factors in this happening, pfizer made just shy of 50B from 06-09′ and made 60B in 10′, lorillard made ~4B from 06-08′, 5.2B in 09′, and 6B in 10′. in my humble 30,000 person town i know that just one drug dealer with a customer base of about 45people can make $10,000 in a summer after subtracting money for gas, food, personal stash (and what a stash!), and other odds and ends. right now weed has about a 250% capitol return if you know what youre doing and buy/sell in good ratios (i.e. dont buy a quarter to sell eights, nor an oz to sell halfs etc.) if the gov legalized it like they would any other fucking thing people might want to buy they could cut the street price to a FRACTION of its current worth. the gov could sell QP’s at $300, producing $1200/LB (of kind ass bud) with an initial investment of about $100 in material and set up time. they bitch that they cant make money because it has no patient, but do you really think every single motherfucker will just spawn a weed farm the day its legalized??????? besides most people wouldnt even know where to start, pot isnt goddamned daffodils, it is NOT easy to grow good bud. and even if 1 out of 5 people had a plant(s) (that is a MASSIVE and horribly generous ratio) A) 4 out of 5 people would still have to buy some where
B) regardless of the amount that is available, inflation on marijuana is very slow and un responsive… if you know what it has cost since its “”debut”" in the early 60′s its generally very steady, and is even still just a few hundred a pound right near the mexican border (yet thousands upon thousands in new england and other such long travel places). no matter what, even though the gov would not have 100% control (maybe like 25% to be honest) it would still have a massive economic impact and in general people would be happier (go figure). alas, we may never be able to silence tobacco lobbyists, pharmaceutical reps and ignorant self indulged politicians. yet, we can still just do it anyway hahahaha

i just want to point out some fact in the gov’s profitability in this.
this site took on the issue for a quick minute with some good points, although they have their numbers off, im going to assume the writers of these articles never spent any time in the drug game.
also, they use the economic crater that is alcohol for its model and profit margin as a basis for the projection of marijuana revenue. this is not only not wise, its largely ignorant. thats like saying robitussin and pepto-bismol are both medicine and therefore do the same thing to you and have the same effects and outcomes. that would be stupid. so ignoring their “con” section on the basis that it is false and ill-structured.
however in the pro section they talk of how the marijuana prohibition mirrors 1920′s alcohol prohibition and how people are currently reacting in the same fashion (doing it anyway).
their number projections are off a tad or two, and they take the cost from canadas recent history. firstly, canada is cold as shit, do you know how much harder it is to grow pot in canada than it is in tennessee?
they project that marijuana would pull in between 45-110B annually, but that assumption is made on a basis of 25M-60M people smoking $5 (street value) daily throughout the year. thats piddle piss. $5 street value of marijuana is .25 grams. thats a sad joint. anyone that smokes for pleasure normally would not bother with that. some may even throw it away in larger roaches. so if they are to assume the annual income of the current market of people who buy and smoke illegally to only be at that rate of smoking on average, those figures are miniscule to the actual numbers that would come from legalization. i can tell you that people who buy weed frequently in low-mid income suburbs will smoke (on the low end) 2-5grams a week, averaging .5grams daily. however, people that either sell pot or party often can and will smoke an ounce or two without even thinking about it, especially over a 7 day span. that can average out to 7.7grams daily. thats 30x more than the average they use for the projections in this estimate… wanna do some math?
also they pull canadas cost in at 33 cents a gram, and retail at $10 a g.
i would love to make something of this as well, but i cant. that is because the cost to profit ratio changes with the amount you buy (as does anything else) and $10 a gram is a very low estimate (SHIT BUD, MIDDIES)and as an example, that price itself would drop to ~~$7.15 a gram if you were to buy an eighth (3.5G) on the street and a mere $4.12 per gram if you buy an ounce (28G).
people that talk politics, business, and drugs are hard to come by so it is hard to ever have an accurate debate on how profitable/successful marijuana would be if it were legal and government sanctioned/distributed. the argument of just how well it would do has many variables and opinions, however the argument that it would fail is purely ignorance or slander.
